Privacy Policy

Template — not yet legal advice. This document accurately describes how Pleasure Compared works, but it has not been reviewed by a solicitor. Have it checked before you go live.
Pleasure Compared is a price-comparison service. We do not sell products and we are not a retailer. This policy explains what personal data we hold, why, and what you can do about it. It reflects what the service genuinely does — not a generic template.
Who we are
Pleasure Compared ("we") is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact us at privacy@pleasurecompared.uk. Before launch, insert your registered company name, address and ICO registration number here.
What we collect, and why
| Data | Why we hold it | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address, password (hashed) | To create and secure your account | Contract |
| Saved products and price alerts | To show your saved list and email you when a price drops to your target | Contract |
| Clicks through to retailers — including the product, the price at the time, your IP address, browser and referring page | To pay and bill retailers accurately, detect fraudulent clicks, and report performance | Legitimate interests |
| Sign-in records — successful and failed logins, with IP address and browser | Security, and to detect attacks on accounts | Legitimate interests |
| An audit trail of changes made in our business portals | Accountability — who changed what, and when | Legitimate interests |
| Company and billing details (business accounts only) | To provide and invoice retailer, manufacturer and API subscriptions | Contract / legal obligation |
What we deliberately do not collect
- We do not ask for your date of birth or any identity document.
- We do not store card details. Card payments, when taken, are handled by our payment processor.
- We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell your personal data. Ever.
- We do not know what you buy — once you click through, you are on the retailer's website, not ours.
Sensitive data
The products we compare can reveal information about your sex life, which UK GDPR treats as a special category of personal data. We take that seriously:
- Your saved products and alerts are visible only to you when signed in.
- You can use the whole site — searching, comparing, clicking through — without an account.
- Emails we send you are titled by product name; turn them off any time in your account.
- We never disclose what you viewed or clicked to a retailer in a way that identifies you.
Who we share data with
- Retailers — when you click through, the retailer receives the referral, and standard web information such as your IP address and browser, as with any link. They report back whether a purchase happened so we can be paid. We do not send them your name or email.
- Our email provider — to deliver price alerts and account emails.
- Our payment processor — business subscriptions only.
- Law enforcement — only where we are legally required to.
How long we keep it
- Account data — until you delete your account.
- Click records — 24 months, for billing disputes and fraud checks, then de-identified.
- Audit and sign-in records — 24 months.
- Invoices — 6 years, as UK tax law requires.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to it. Two of these are built in and instant:
- Get a copy — your account page has a "Download my data" button that gives you everything we hold, as a JSON file.
- Delete your account — same page. This removes your account, saved products, alerts and notifications immediately.
When you delete your account we keep click records and audit entries, because retailers are billed on them and we are accountable for them — but we strip out everything that ties them to you (your account link, IP address and browser), so they no longer identify you.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
