Modern Slavery Statement

Template — not yet legal advice. This document accurately describes how Pleasure Compared works, but it has not been reviewed by a solicitor. Have it checked before you go live.
This statement is published voluntarily. Pleasure Compared is below the £36 million turnover threshold at which section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires one, so nothing obliges us to write it. We publish it because the products we compare are made in supply chains where forced labour is a real risk, and saying nothing on the grounds that we are too small to be asked is not a position we want to take.
What our business actually is
We are a price-comparison service. We do not manufacture, buy, stock, import or sell any product. Nothing physical passes through our hands. We publish prices that retailers send us and link shoppers to those retailers.
That matters for what follows: we have no factories, no goods supply chain, and no procurement of the products shown on this site. Claiming to audit them would be a claim we could not stand behind.
Our own supply chain
Everything we buy is a service, from a short list:
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure.
- Software and developer tools.
- Payment processing.
- Professional services — accountancy, legal.
These are low-risk sectors in developed markets. We consider modern slavery risk within our own operations and this supply chain to be low.
The retailers we list
This is where our influence is real but limited, and we would rather be precise than impressive.
What we do:
- Our retailer terms require every retailer listing with us to comply with all applicable law, including the Modern Slavery Act 2015 where it applies to them.
- We will remove a retailer from this site if we become aware of credible evidence of forced labour in their operations or supply chain. We do not need a conviction to act.
- Anyone can report a concern to us and we will look into it. Our contact details are on this site.
What we do not do, and will not pretend to:
- We do not audit retailers' factories or suppliers. We are a comparison site; we have neither the access nor the standing to inspect a manufacturer we have no commercial relationship with.
- We do not verify the supply chain of every product in our catalogue. There are thousands of them, made by hundreds of manufacturers we do not deal with.
A shopper reading this should understand that listing on Pleasure Compared is not a certification. It means a retailer sends us a price — nothing more.
Our people
We pay at or above the Real Living Wage, employ nobody through unchecked labour agencies, hold the right-to-work documents the law requires, and take no fee from anyone for the offer of work. Every worker holds their own identity documents and their own bank account.
Training
We are a small team. Rather than claim a training programme we do not run, we state plainly what is true: everyone here knows the indicators of forced labour and who to raise a concern with, and no one needs permission to raise one.
How we will know if this is working
Honestly: an absence of reports is not evidence of an absence of harm, and we will not present it as such. What we can commit to is that any concern raised with us gets looked at, that we act on credible evidence without waiting for a conviction, and that we review this statement every financial year and say so when it changes.
Approval
This statement needs the company name, a director's name and signature, the financial year it covers, and a board approval date before publication. Those are what make it a statement rather than a page. Until they are filled in, it is a draft.
